Up to date in the Old Lylek Den

We usually play on Wednesday nights, but last night there were a couple of conflicts. We are hoping to pick up tonight...

So the following is what happened LAST week, and this catches this journal up to date...

Nyn sends the heroes out toward New Meen. They have a Speeder provided for them. They notice the droid is not there… Turns out he went back to the ship during the night and the other ship on the landing pad is gone and has been replaced by a different vessel.

I forgot to roll for obligation, so it was ignored. The group speed away across the badlands - Craig driving and Kyle helping to navigate, as he has skills that allow for better “rough terrain” travel. They are ambushed! Their speeder is disabled and the driver, Craig’s character, takes some damage when his body collides with the controls. They get out to investigate and hear some people behind cover
laughing. They identify themselves as Imperials and demand that the group put down their weapons. Jonas’ droid character, ever on the lookout for Imperials to blast, charges while the others try to figure out why Imperials would be calling out from the shadows…

A Gand and a human are behind cover. Jonas assumes the human is the Imperial and opens fire, wounding him. Kyle’s Wookie tries to stop the shooting and manages to get them to hold off for one turn, then Jonas’ droid fires again. This time they fire back and the Gand hits the Wookie and almost stuns him to the ground.

After a few rounds the heroes have managed to take out “Imperial” and another “Guy” runs up from the cave to take his place, firing on the group. Meanwhile the Wookie manages to subdue the Gand and take his Blaster Rifle from him. He threatens him if the others don’t give up. They answer by running deeper into the cave.

B’ora B’an was knocked out in the crash. He comes to and finds some strapping material to bind the Gand, Imperial and Guy. Their aim is to see if they have a bounty and to maybe extract some information. Chris’ character manages to read the thoughts of the Gand and knows he’s afraid he won’t survive this and get back to Teemo. Threatened by the Wookie, he admits to being
“in it for the cred’s.” Brent and Jonas recognize the humans as “typical bounty hunters” and Jonas even knows they call one of them Haze.

They let the two escape deeper into the cave while they decide what to do now. Some want to continue with the mission while some want to explore the cave. The Wookie, very winded from the encounter, agrees to rest and keep a watch on the prisoners, saying "we have comlinks, remember?”

That’s where we called the night for time. No XP was given out yet as we didn’t get that far into the action, and they are still technically at the “Old Lylek Cave.”

We did have a Monty Python moment though... Remember that we are playing on roll20.net. There is a "fog" feature there where the GM can "reveal" only the part of the map that is seen. Right now here's the where the characters are -

If you'll notice the "grayed" parts, that's what the characters can NOT see (which is why I'm not giving you a full screen shot). The speeder came in from the upper left so that's all that could be seen. As they got closer to the ambush spot, I would "reveal" more and move the speeder. When the "O" in the word Old was revealed, Kyle said, "I want to hide behind the big Cherrio." :-)

After a laugh I revealed the entire title and we joked about if this were a Python skit the words would actually BE on the set like that.

I was also accused of bringing a Car Wars vehicle in by way of the speeder. I actually pulled that from some Star Wars graphics I have, but I admit it does LOOK like a vehicle from Car Wars, which gave me an idea of where to grab some graphics... ;-)

Yes, we laugh and cut up and have a great time overall. The game is the catalyst - the social interaction is the real fun. :-)

Until next time…

some more background - and another session

Some background on the only player that wasn't at the fist session...

Chris’ character was trapped on the Krayt Fang. He had been taken prisoner by Trex as he would make good sport on a hunting run, or maybe fetch a decent price on the slave market. Trex had caught him by surprise and Dagos Frey was just biding his time while waiting for a chance to escape. Finding a common interest with the rest of the heroes, he has also found a new home.

Next session...

We played the next session on January 8, 2014. I had downloaded "The Long Arm of the Hutt" to run. This is the follow up adventure that Fantasy Flight published so I figured it would be a good spot to continue. It helps ME learn the system as well as the players, and since it's a "published" adventure I knew it would be fleshed out and thought out.

We had a quick recap of the last adventure and then we began. Brent had emailed a list of things he wanted to check on the ship. Since this adventure covers part of that I told him we’d cover it in session.

First, destiny points. All five guys rolled 2 white on the die, so they started with 10 and I started with zero. Obligation rolled for Kyle. His character is bothered by the fact that there was a captured person onboard (Chris' character) so he takes two strain for the session. All the others take one strain.

The heroes explore the ship and have to figure out how to silence an alarm and some annoying music. They also encounter another captive who offers them fuel and repairs if he will take them home to Ryloth. By coincidence, they are headed that way already… AND they are almost out of fuel! They pop out of hyperspace and are attacked by a small star fighter. While Jonas angles the deflector,
Craig and Chris climb into the turrets and manage to blow the attacker out of the sky.

They land on Ryloth and are introduced to the leader of a local group trying to turn away some ruffians from taking over a mining operation. Seems they have a mutual enemy in the form of Teemo the Hutt, so the heroes agree to help take care of said ruffians. They are offered a good night’s sleep first, though, and that’s where we ended the session.

a little background

In preparation for this blog, I had typed a little "first person narrative" to talk a little about the characters...

As you wander the streets of Mos Shuuta, hearing the tale of “those that escaped,” you wonder why were they running from Teemo? “Funny you should ask,” says an old man sitting outside the cantina, chewing a weed while sitting in the shade of the suns. “Seems Tal Rha, the Twi’lek you heard about, had gotten wind of a recent battle the Rebellion had. Seems they blew up a space station or orbiting platform or something like that. Tal Rha is from here, you know, and between runs on a freighter. He
heard that Teemo might have some connections with the Rebellion and he and that droid pal of his, LEEVO they called him, well they were asking questions and got the attention of the Hutt - and not in a good way…”

The old man goes on to tell you about the Wookie that was looking for work, until he found out the Hutt was dealing with bounty hunters that were also slavers. “Then there was another human that was with them, but I don’t know his story…”

Sensing that’s all the information the old man can give you, you nod and walk away…

Second Session

This is actually several weeks old now, but I've been forgetting to post it. :-) We just finished a session tonight, though, so I thought I'd get this posted...

The second session saw Kyle absent, so the Wookie crawled off into the crew quarters to rest from his wounds received while fighting Trex to the death. Brent used the communications in the cockpit to talk to spaceport control to attempt to get the docking clamps removed. He was able to lie his way through by saying that Trex had been wounded and they needed to get him off planet immediately for urgent care. The controller was busy giving the Imperial shuttle clearance and believed the story, so they were free.

They drug Trex into the cargo hold that contains some “cages” for slaves, but didn’t notice an occupant in one - Chris’ character. He tried over several rounds to “use the force” to lift the key from Trex’s body and was unsuccessful. Meanwhile Brent is trying to get the ship out of the planet’s gravity well in order to make the jump to hyperspace. Craig and Jonas climb into the top and bottom turrets to fend off some TIE fighters that were gunning for them. They manage to destroy them and two more start coming as Chris finally gets the key and gets free.

Once those TIE’s are destroyed they make a quick jump toward Ryloth via the main hyperspace routes. Chris comes up behind Brent and manages to flip a dark side point to light and lift Brent’s blaster from his holster. They are not sure that they should trust each other but finally realize that Chris was a prisoner. They give First Aid to Trex and put him in the cage, curious if he has a bounty on his head. Chris gives the blaster back and the episode ends with the ship continuing through hyperspace.

Craig, Jonas, Brent & Chris each receive 5 XP. They have listed some things they want to do on the ship while they are in transit, and I’m working on those things now. All wounds have been healed, including a critical injury that Kyle sustained. We will most likely be taking up “The Long Arm of the Hutt” follow up adventure.

Escape from Mos Shuuta - Part One

We used the Beginner Box adventure for the first session.

Opening adventure had the four heroes running from Teemo the Hutt. They ducked into the cantina to hide from three Gamorean guards in hot pursuit. Craig & Kyle tried to blend in with the people in the booths. Craig failed to blend, but they didn’t run away. Kyle failed to blend and the people got up to move to some tables. Brent charmed the Twi’lek on stage into letting him dance as well while Jonas pointed his gun at the bartender and hid in the supply closet.

The guards failed to see Jonas & Brent - but they spotted Craig & Kyle and started to enter the cantina. Craig dropped one with a blaster shot, slowing the others. Between him and Kyle they dropped the other two. The bartender, not a fan of Teemo either, nor the guards, told them of a freighter in the hanger bay owned by Trex, a Trandosian bounty hunter & slaver. It only needed a part to be able to jump them to hyperspace and safety - a Hypermatter Reactor Ignitor. He told them they could probably get one at the junk shop next door, so they thanked him and left. Jonas grabbed a Cudgel from one of the fallen guards as they escaped.

They found the part they needed, but it cost more credits than they had between them. Brent led the shop owner out back looking for some “accessories” for the ship, leaving the others inside. Since the part was just laying on a shelf, Kyle & Jonas kept watch while Craig stole the part and took off.

They went the “back way” toward the hanger and narrowly missed more guards looking for them. They spotted an Imperial shuttle coming toward the town as they made their way toward the hanger. When they got there they found two droids standing guard at the entrance, so they found a back way. Failing to slice the door open and attracting one of the guards, Kyle asked the guard about hiring the ship for transport, thus distracting him long enough for the others to slip in.

Once they were all inside, Craig left the HMRI under the mandibles as they made their way around the ship. Brent and Jonas noticed the docking clamps were still in place, but decided they would deal with that later. They found two more guards at the bottom of the landing ramp and they attacked. Down the ramp comes Trex who gets into a hand to hand battle with Kyle as the others dispatch
the droids guarding the ramp.

It’s a fierce battle between the Trandosian and the Wookie, but the Wookie winds up on top. Literally. He caused Trex to stumble and managed to finish him off, then drug his body on board the Krayt Fang. Craig retrieved the HMRI and they locked the ramp just as the  other security droids were arriving from the door of the hanger bay. Kyle upgrades his blaster pistol to the heavier one that Trex had worn and gave his to Craig.

Craig managed to get the HMRI installed with a wonderful roll! Several Successes meant he got it installed first try and in record time. He also rolled four Threats and the group has yet to find out what that will mean. Craig kept saying, “it’s not my fault! It’s not my fault!”

The first session drew to a close and each player received 10 XP to spend.

The picture is just a quick grab - it's not what it looked like at the time, but I didn't think to grab a pic at that time. :-)

The story begins...

STAR WARS
Edge of the Empire RPG

Imps in the Rearview
Episode 1
Escape from Mos Shuuta

This will be an ongoing blog sharing our current campaign of Fantasy Flight's Edge of the Empire RPG. I'm Jimmy, the GM. We currently have five other players and I'll introduce you as the posts continue...

Our first night playing included Brent and his son Jonas, Craig and my son Kyle. We were connecting via roll20.net and I had the Beginner Box adventure ready to roll. We did NOT use the "quick start" rules, though, and they each had their own character and did not use the pregens.

Everyone had a great time and we ended on a high note with everyone ready for the next session. Next post I'll share some details of the first session. I will attempt to avoid any major spoilers, but anyone who has read or heard about this adventure will note that no two groups have the same experience, so I know minor spoilers are not usually a problem.
